Brakes Checklist
On older front drum brakes – check that brake linings are well bonded –
otherwise repair/replace
On rear drum brakes – check to make sure brake linings are well bonded -
otherwise repair/replace
Check to make sure brake drums are not rusty and are clean and smooth
Make sure brake shoe pivot points operate freely
On front disc brakes – check to make sure rotor is not warped and it is securely
attached to wheel
Replace all hydraulic brake fluid – make sure all brake lines are good and not
cracked/rotten/leaking
Bleed all air out of disc brake systems – make sure the brake lever does not
feel spongy/soft
Make sure brake caliper piston is free and it moves in/out freely – rebuild
caliper if needed
Check brake pad thickness/shape – replace if worn too badly
Rebuild master cylinder on handlebar if needed
Make sure all banjo bolts are tightened and there are no fluid or air leaks in
the system
