Tokico Caliper Conversion
It is my understanding that the Suzuki Vstrom DL1000
(2002-2012) Tokico caliper is a bolt-on conversion for H series.
Caution per Rick Hughes: The mounting holes
on the forks are 53.25 mm apart. The mounting holes on the Tokico calipers
are 55 mm apart and NOT at an angle that would work on my H1. The Tokico
caliper must use an adapter not only for the spacing of the holes, but to
orient the caliper perpendicular to the axle. Enlarging the holes or
machining them to widen the pattern will not work. The retaining pin on the
bottom of the caliper would ride against the disc. Also the offset (fork
boss to to disc) is off by 0.275". The offset mismatch does allow for using
an adapter. However there is another problem.
The Tokico calipers have a retaining boss for the pads that is designed for
a disc with a much smaller contact area. The retaining boss will eventually
grind against the H1 disc long before the pads are worn out.
Andy_C had a problem mounting
his caliper. Here is what he had to do:
The calliper is fitted thanks to a 4mm thick plate
that is bolted to the calliper carrier, and then by bolts through the stock
mounting holes that are threaded through the 4mm thick plate & calliper carrier
in one position and via a clearance hole in the 4mm plate.
The 4mm spaces the caliper off the inside of the stock
disc mounts and centralises the calliper about the disc.
