Device Drivers

Device drivers are used by Windows to allow attached devices/functions to operate properly. These drivers are supplied by device manufacturers and Microsoft and they are updated periodically to take advantage of new features and correct problems. Microsoft will udate drivers via Windows Update with their version of a driver. These are not necessarily the latest drivers available.

The Windows Device Manager can be accessed by typing "device" in the Windows search box or via Control Panel. The resulting page will show all connected devices by category. If there is a problem with any device it will show in an expanded drop down view within the category and needs attention.

There are a number of third party device driver update programs available. Not all of them can be trusted and many are loaded with adware, etc.

Any computer system with Intel components included on motherboard or processor should use Intel Driver & Support Assistant to keep drivers on your system automatically updated.  It can be downloaded here:  https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html

Another driver update program that is safe and thorough is Driver Booster by IOBit.  It can be downloaded here:  https://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php
Be cautious about options when installing... not to include undesired program installation along with Driver Booster. There are ads for upgrades when running the program... just ignore them... the program is worth the annoyance.
